Our 
Story

Baltimore Animal Rescue & Care Shelter, BARCS is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization operating Maryland’s largest animal shelter and pet adoption center. They are an open admission shelter, granting refuge to every abandoned, neglected, abused, lost or surrendered animal that comes through their doors. BARCS also offers several ways to volunteer such as fostering animals, walking dogs, providing office assistance, and staffing community outreach events.

Adoptions

Adoption hours:

Adoption requirements:

Monday-Friday: 2pm-6pm

Saturday-Sunday: 11am-4pm

Adoption fee:

$75

In order to adopt, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Provide proof of current address

  • Have a current photo ID

  • Complete an Adoption Application

  • Interact with the animal(s) you are interested in adopting.

Once a selection has been made, applicants meet with a BARCS Adoption Counselor.

Adoption Process:

To adopt a special, furry friend from BARCS, here are some important steps:

 

  1. Visit BARCS’s shelter during adoption hours. When you arrive, you will first be asked to fill out their Shelter Adoption Application with your information.

  2. Tour the adoption rooms and write down the names of animals that you would like to meet. When you have selected the right furry friend for you, their Adoptions Team will run your Adoption Application for approval.

  3. Once your application is approved, you will participate in an adoption class where you will learn all of the details about your new adopted family member, including their known history and medical records.
